FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FULL TIME VOLUNTEERS AWARDED TO COMMUNITY AND FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONS

Corporation for National and Community Service and the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks announce release of organizations being awarded AmeriCorps*VISTA Members COLUMBUS - The Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks (OASHF), an intermediary for the Corporation for National and Community Service, announces the placement of national service volunteers into community and faith-based organizations through its SHARECorps program, an initiative of OASHF and AmeriCorps*VISTA. 34 individuals are being given the opportunity to commit a year of their life to service at 32 organizations throughout the state of Ohio, with the intent of fighting poverty and ending hunger.  

On the local level, those who will be working with the SHARECorps members are getting excited for their arrival and for work to begin. The ShareCorps member for Family Promise of Lorain County will begin their service year with the organization on in late summer or early fall. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with SHARECorps in the coming year. This is an opportunity for us to expand our services within the community by developing two new programs, Just Neighbors and Family Mentoring, to address poverty and hunger," Nicolle Bellmore Pierse, Executive Director of Family Promise of Lorain County.  ...MORE INFORMATION

10/13/09 The Community Foundation of Lorain County presents check to Family Promise of Lorain County .  "On October 13, 2009 Margo Hirth and Pat Lindley, 1Board members of the Community Foundation of Lorain County attending the Family Promise of Lorain County Board meeting to present a check in the amount of $20,000. Family Promise of Lorain County received this contribution upon a rigorous grant selection process. Funds will be used, in part, to complete background checks on all Interfaith Hospitality Network volunteers as a means of providing the safest environment possible for children staying in the shelter."
